My Philosophy

Hypnobirthing combines practical tools such as breathing, relaxation, visualisation and mindset with knowledge about how birth works. At Henley Hypnobirthing, I believe preparation isn’t about trying to control exactly how your birth will unfold. It’s about giving you the tools, knowledge and confidence to approach birth feeling prepared for different possibilities.

That’s why my courses go beyond hypnobirthing techniques. Alongside learning practical ways to support calm and relaxation, you’ll explore how the maternity system works, understand your options and rights, and learn how to communicate confidently with your care team and make informed decisions about your care.

I teach the Wise Hippo Birthing Programme, which follows a “Right Birth on the Day” philosophy — preparing you for your individual birth, whatever that may look like.

"I started this course feeling terrified of the whole birthing part of pregnancy, but left in a completely different mind set - confident, calm, and felt fully prepared and excited for the birth of my baby. Highly recommended, better than I could of hoped for."

"Hypnobirthing with Sarah has been the best decision I have made during my pregnancy. I am thoroughly enjoying the course and so is my husband."
My Story

My curiosity with hypnobirthing began while I was pregnant with my first child. My husband and I joined a local antenatal course and we were beginning to positively picture the birth of our baby. However, one session changed this.

The session was filled with negativity. It described continual interventions, painful contractions and medical jargon that totally stumped me. I couldn’t believe this was what my labour might turn out to be - painful, and almost certainly a Caesarean. I knew I didn’t want a Caesarean. I knew I wanted to be able to manage my pain. But what other options did I have?

It was at this point that someone approached me with the idea of Hypnobirthing. I had no idea what it was but I was compelled to investigate it. My mind was completely reopened to the idea of a beautiful, natural birth, free of complications that I could control.

My husband, the most pragmatic guy I know, even jumped on board and a week later and we were together learning about Hypnobirthing, both of us blown away.

A few weeks later, the study and practice paid off, I breathed out a 9.6lb baby boy, then two years on, a 8.13lb baby girl. Both births were beautiful and powerful, demonstrating so many of my Hypnobirthing tools.

My births inspired me to share my knowledge of Hypnobirthing to all expectant parents. I wanted parents to feel prepared, informed and confident going into birth- whatever their birth ultimately looked like. I believe hypnobirthing gives parents practical tools for navigating birth, alongside the knowledge and confidence to understand their options and make informed decisions about their care.
